Frequently Asked Questions

What is water polo?

Water polo is a ton of fun! This challenging sport combines elements of soccer, hockey, wrestling, basketball, and swimming.

How old do I need to be to play?

Marble City is focused on athletes aged 13-18. Motivated 12-year-olds will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

I know nothing about water polo. Is that okay?

Absolutely! We expect that most of our players will have no previous experience. All we ask is for each player to have a can-do attitude and be willing to try their best. Everyone is here to have fun, learn, and get better.

Do I need to be a good swimmer to play water polo?

Yes. While competitive swimming experience is not necessary, it is encouraged.

When are practices?

Please see the calendar for the most up-to-date practice schedule.

When is the water polo season?

The club season starts after spring break and runs through June. The summer league season is July through early August, and the high school season is August through October.

What equipment do I need to bring to practice?

Just a suit, water, and possibly some goggles for warmup if you choose.

Can I play other sports during the season?

Absolutely! We encourage our athletes to participate in as many other sports as they can handle. We do ask for open communication about other commitments.

What are these seasons all about?

At a high level, the club season is for refining fundamental water polo technique and improving individual skills. The summer league season is about introducing new athletes to the sport and having fun. During the high school season, athletes compete against other high school teams from across the state. Please see the registration page for more details about each season.

Are there other programs that I can support which will support Marble City Water Polo?

Yes! We are a registered charity with the Kroger Community Rewards program. If you link your Kroger card to us, we will receive a small donation back each time you shop at Kroger. This program costs you nothing! Please go to kroger.com/communityrewards and search for us by name, or ID SU683, to link your account.

I want to play, but I'm unsure of the cost. What should I do?

We want everyone who wants to play water polo to be able to play water polo! Please send us an email outlining your situation or talk to a coach directly.

Does Marble City Water Polo accept donations?

Yes! Marble City Water Polo is a 501(c)(3) organization. All donations to Marble City Water Polo are tax deductible under IRC Section 170.
